A 23-year-old man, whose own father was shot dead in Dublin 15 years ago, has been jailed for life for murder.
Liam Bolger, from Homelawn Gardens in Tallaght, was the getaway driver for the gunman who shot Christopher Barry nine times in six seconds in a bookmakers in Donnycarney on 13 September last year.
The gunman left the scene on a motorbike but was picked up by a van a short distance away. The driver of the van was Liam Bolger.
The prosecution said while he was not the assassin, he shared equal responsibility for the murder because he had agreed to participate.
The van and his mobile phone led gardaí to Bolger. The defendant denied any involvement, but a jury at the Central Criminal Court found him guilty of murder by a ten to two majority.
The gang-related murder was connected to an ongoing feud between two criminal gangs in south Dublin which has so far led to 13 deaths.
The court heard that the victim had a drugs conviction and was linked to the gangs.
