Heavy rain causes flooding countrywide

Motorists have been warned of dangerous driving conditions following heavy rain overnight.

The rail line between Wicklow and Gorey is closed due to the instability of an embankment south of Arklow, and a landslide south of Wicklow.

It is estimated that the line will remain closed until Monday, 30 November, while the embankment is strengthened and the landslide cleared.

Bus transfers are in operation for rail services between Wicklow and Gorey.

Elsewhere, DART services are suspended between Dún Laoghaire and Bray due to flooding on the line at Sandycove.

Dublin Bus will accept rail tickets.

In Clare, flooding was reported on the main Galway Road (N18) between Ballyline and Crusheen.

Gardaí say the road is still passable, but motorists are advised to be careful.

Flooding in other parts of the country is said to be subsiding.

However AA Roadwatch is advising motorists to take care in Mallow due to very bad flooding on Park Road.

Today's racing at Cork Racecourse was also cancelled.

Flooding has been reported on the N25 New Ross/Waterford Road and on the Gorey/Ballycanew Rd in Wexford.

There are reports of floods on the N61 Tulsk Rd and N63 Lanesborough Rd out of Roscommon Town.
