A soldier is in a critical but stable condition in hospital after being attacked in Youghal, Co Cork.
The 22-year-old was attacked in the smoking room of a pub in the town, just after 12.30am yesterday morning.
The private, who is based in Collins Barracks in Cork, was taken to Cork University Hospital with serious head injuries.
Gardaí in Youghal are investigating and anyone with information is asked to contact them on 024-92200.
