Heavy rain overnight and caused flooding in many parts of the country.
Motorists were advised to take care as surface water remains on many roads.
A number of sporting events were cancelled because of the weather conditions, including horse racing at Cork and Leopardstown.
AA Roadwatch has reported that the Rathangan to Kildare road (R401) is closed due to flooding and the Celbridge to Ardclough road remains impassable.
There are also reports of excess surface water in counties Donegal, Kilkenny, Meath and Wicklow.
