Proposed free parking zone

Dublin City Council has given details of a proposed free parking zone in the city centre as an incentive to Christmas shoppers.

The council wants to suspend on street all parking charges for 1,380 places after 2pm on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.

This would begin on 18 November and last until 27 December.

The council is also calling for the bus gate at College Green to be lifted to allow private motorists to use the area during the evening rush hours from 18 November until 15 January.

These measures will be put to the full monthly meeting of councillors for a decision on Monday evening.

The council also announced that the new bridge at Macken St will open on 10 December and Operation Freeflow will start on 29 November.
