A man who was being questioned about a fatal road accident in Co Cork yesterday has been released by gardaí.

24-year-old Brendan Donnelly, from Greenfields in Waterford, and 26-year-old Lee Salkeld, from Old Tramore Road, Waterford, died in the collision on the N25. Two women were injured in the crash which happened at 2.45am yesterday morning.

The accident happened when two cars collided on the main Cork-Waterford road outside Castlemartyr.

It is understood that a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Elsewhere, an 81-year-old woman died in hospital following a road crash in Dublin.

The woman was hit by a car on the Malahide Road in Coolock.

The accident happened at 6.15pm yesterday.
