The Central Criminal Court has heard that the main prosecution witnesses in a Dublin murder trial are three children.
Two men have gone on trial for the murder of 35-year-old David Rooney, who died ten days after he was assaulted with a snooker cue, a golf club and a knife on Clonmacnoise Road in July 2008.
Jason Curry, 20, of Leighlin Road in Crumlin, and 18-year-old Karl Fay of Lismore Road in Crumlin deny a charge of murder.
Opening the case, counsel for the prosecution Tom O'Connell told the jury it was the State's case that the two accused assaulted David Rooney.
He said the main eye witnesses to the assault were three children now aged 12, eight and seven who will give evidence by video link tomorrow.
The court heard witnesses will say that Mr Rooney was seen entering Jason Curry's house on the evening of the assault.
It is alleged that he was later assaulted by Jason Curry and Karl Fay who used a snooker cue and a golf club to beat him. He was also stabbed a number of times.
He was taken by ambulance to St James' Hospital suffering from head wounds and stab wounds to his neck and body. He was transferred to Beaumont hospital, but died ten days later.
