Three held over fatal Limerick crash

Three men are being questioned by gardaí in connection with a fatal road crash in Limerick.

A 53-year-old man died following the crash at Ahabeg in Ballysimon at about 8.15pm yesterday evening.

The man was the driver of a car that collided with a 4x4 on the N24. He was later pronounced dead at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital.

A woman who was in the car was also taken to hospital, but her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The occupants of the 4x4 fled the scene of the collision.

The three men being questioned are being held at Roxboro Road and Henry Street garda stations.

Separately, in Co Tyrone, a woman died in a collision near Ballygawley.

She has been named as 50-year-old Mary Wasson from Upper Lisburn Road in the Finaghy area of South Belfast.

The crash, which happened yesterday evening at around 5pm, involved two cars on the main Omagh Road.

The PSNI said another woman and two men were injured that are not life-threatening.
