The Garda Commissioner has said gardaí have increased surveillance and monitoring of suspected dissident republicans.
Fachtna Murphy said while groups like the Continuity IRA and the Real IRA were active south of the border, they posed a greater threat to security and safety in Northern Ireland.
The Commissioner held his first meeting with new PSNI Chief Constable Matt Baggot in Dublin last night.
Mr Baggot said that Dissident Republicans were using the cause as a cover of their criminal activity.
Both senior policemen were speaking after a conference this morning on counterfeiting.
