Demand for mushrooms leads to 60 new jobs

Codd Mushrooms has announced the creation of 60 new jobs at its production facility in Tullow, Co Carlow.

The new jobs will be created in the areas of management, quality-control, harvesting and packing.

Managing Director Leslie Codd said: 'Despite the recession we are seeing a substantial increase in demand for our mushrooms'.

As part of the expansion, the company will also be doubling the size of its production facility from 7,000 to 14,000sq.m at a total cost of €2.5m.

Phase one of the expansion will begin in November and phase two is due to get under way at the end of 2010.

Established in Tullow in 1990, Codd Mushrooms currently employs 73 staff and is the largest supplier of mushrooms to the Irish market.
