Gardaí are treating as a tragic accident the death of a man whose body was discovered at a waste sorting facility outside Listowel in Co Kerry yesterday afternoon.

Preliminary results from a post mortem examination indicate that the man received his injuries in the back of a refuse truck.

The examination was carried out at Kerry General Hospital in Tralee by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster.

The dead man has been named as 32-year-old Declan Power, a father-of-one from Bunmahon in Co Wateford.

He was visiting Listowel for the Harvest Horse Racing Festival, which has been taking place in the town throughout the week.

Gardaí believe Mr Power got into an catering-sized wheelie bin and fell asleep at around 5am yesterday morning.

Mr Power's body was discovered when the truck was unloaded at the South West Bends Waste Sorting Facility at Kilmorna.
