Gardaí in Waterford are investigating the circumstances surrounding a burglary in which an elderly man was injured in the city last night.
A man in his early 80s received facial injuries during the incident and was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital.
It is understood that he is in a critical condition.
The scene has been preserved for a technical examination and the incident is under investigation.
No arrests have been made.
