A convicted sex offender has been arrested on suspicion of attacking a woman in Dublin - 14 hours after he was released from Wheatfield Prison.
The woman was attacked, robbed and held against her will in her home off Dorset Street in the early hours of Monday morning.
After he pushed the woman into the house, the man checked the other rooms to make sure no one else was there.
However, the woman's screams were heard and the man fled when gardaí arrived.
The man, who is in his 30s, was later arrested at his home in Cabra.
The suspect is a recidivist sex offender who was first convicted of raping a woman in the mid-1990s.
He attacked another woman along the Royal Canal within 36 hours of being released after serving that sentence.
He was caught and sentenced to five years for that offence.
He is being detained at Mountjoy Garda Station and is due to appear before the Dublin District Court today.
