Diversions which were earlier in place have since been lifted and the road has reopened.

Separately, a 24-year-old man died in a collision involving a car and a motorcycle near Kinnitty, Co Offaly, last night.

The man, who was the driver of the motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened shortly before 7pm yesterday evening.

The driver of the car was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore, but his injuries are not thought to be serious.

The road remains closed while investigators carry out a technical examination of the scene.
