A 44-year-old man has been remanded in custody charged with murdering two British soldiers in Antrim.
Brian Shivers from Magherafelt, Co Derry, appeared at Ballymena Magistrates Court today, where he was also charged with the attempted murder of six other people and possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent.
23-year-old Mark Quinsey from Birmingham and 21-year-old Patrick Azimkar from London were shot dead in a Real IRA gun attack as they collected pizzas from delivery men outside Massereene military base on 7 March.
The court was told the case against Mr Shivers is based on DNA evidence allegedly linking him to two matchsticks found in a partially burnt out getaway car.
A PSNI detective inspector said a partial DNA profile was also found on a mobile phone in the car and a match discovered beside the vehicle.
The accused's solicitor challenged the strength of the forensic evidence.
The district judge remanded Mr Shivers in custody to appear again on 18 August.
One man has already been charged with the murders.
