A 31-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital in Dublin after he was stabbed in the neck.
The man was attacked on Parnell Street in Dublin city centre at around 4pm this afternoon.
He was taken to the Mater Hospital and his condition is described as serious.
The area was sealed off for forensic examination.
Detectives are trying to establish a motive for the attack and are appealing for anyone with any information to contact them.
His attacker is described as being in his late 20s with a very tight haircut.
He has a pale complexion and is clean shaven. He is believed to be approximately 6' to 6'2'' tall.
He was wearing a white or light coloured top and white or beige coloured knee-length shorts.
The man ran in the Marlboro Street-Summerhill direction after the attack.
