Ian Paisley Jnr has been fined £5000 and found in contempt of court for refusing to reveal a source to an inquiry investigating the death of LVF leader Billy Wright.
The North Antrim MLA was also told that he would have to pay £3000 toward the inquiry team's legal costs.
However, Mr Justice Gillen at the Belfast High Court, said he would give him three months to reconsider and to comply with the requests to reveal his source by the inquiry team.
Mr Paisley has consistantly refused to reveal the identity of a prison officer working in the Maze at the time of Wright's death in December 1997, who told him that over 5,000 prison files had been destroyed after the fatal shooting.
