Taxi drivers protest over licence fee

Taxi drivers in Dublin withdrew their services this morning in protest at a decision by the Taxi Regulator to increase the licence fee.

The cost of a taxi driver's badge has increased to €250 for five years.

The four main taxi drivers unions told their members not to work between 7am and 11am.

The leaders of the unions handed a letter to Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey calling for the resignation of regulator Kathleen Doyle.
