The PSNI is investigating an alleged sexual assault against a child in the north Belfast area last night.
Police were called to the scene following reports that a man had entered a house in the Cliftonville area and stole a number of items
However, when the officers arrived, the victim told police about being assaulted in a bedroom.
Detectives from the PSNI Rape Crime Unit have launched an investigation.
A spokesperson said: 'Enquiries are at a very early stage, and because of the young age of the victim, our officers are gathering information in the least stressful and most sensitive way possible under the circumstances.
The PSNI says the victim is receiving specialist care and assistance from the Rape Crime Unit.
It said the incident was cause for concern but not for alarm, and urged people in the area to be vigilant.
