The jury in the trial of Ronald McManus has been sent home for the night after deliberating for just over two and half hours.

The jury will resume deliberating in the morning.

44-year-old Ronald McManus, also known as Ronnie Dunbar, of Rathbraughan Park in Sligo, denies murdering 14-year-old Melissa Mahon in September 2006.

He also denies threatening to kill his own daughter.

At the end of the five week trial, the jury was addressed by Mr Justice Barry White who said they would have to assess the credibility of key witnesses in the case.

The prosecution claims that Mr Dunbar killed Melissa and dumped her body in the River Bonnet in Sligo.

Her remains were found on the shores of Lough Gill in February 2008 after Mr Dunbar's daughters alerted gardaí.
