Residents of Slane in Co Meath were in Dublin today to campaign for improved road safety.
The group highlighted the situation at an Oireachtas Transport Committee meeting.
The delegation invited the Dáil Transport Committee to visit Slane village to see at first hand the problems caused by large numbers of HGVs passing through the village on a daily basis.
According to Committee member and Meath East TD Shane McEntee the committee has given a firm commitment to the group to put their case to the National Roads Authority.
The group is demanding a ban on heavy vehicles or the construction of a bypass in an attempt to reduce the number of serious crashes in the town.
Last month, a group of residents blocked traffic passing through the town as part of their campaign.
They claim the bridge in Slane is the most dangerous in Europe.
