A car suspected of being involved in the robbery was later located near O'Briensbridge in Co Clare.
Meanwhile, gardaí recovered a firearm and a substantial amount of cash, believed to up to €40,000, during the course of a search of two houses in the Ballinacurra Weston area of the city last night.
The search was part of an ongoing operation by gardaí investigating gangland criminality in the city.
Two men are in custody at Roxboro Garda Station.
