A woman has appeared in court in Belfast charged with murdering her husband.

The body of the 46-year-old man was found at the couple's home in east Belfast last Tuesday morning.

Appearing at Belfast's Magistrate's court today, Pauline Shaw spoke only to confirm that she understood the murder charge against her.

A PSNI detective revealed that when cautioned last night, the 45-year-old woman responded 'I never intended to kill my husband because I love my husband.'

He said that he had been involved in interviews connected to the death of Stephen Shaw in his East Belfast home and was satisfied that he could link the defendent to the charge.

During the brief hearing, Pauline Shaw's solicitor indicated that she denied the murder and that his client hoped 'the true background of her husband's death' would come out at her trial.

There was no application for bail and Mrs Shaw was remanded in custody to appear via video link on 9 April.
