The Irish Haemophilia Society has moved to reassure its members about the risk of infection with variant CJD, arising from clotting products, made in the past from donors.
It follows the news that a man in his 70s with haemophilia who recently died in Britain, had evidence of vCJD infection.
Around 50 Irish patients, who used UK plasma derived products, have been informed of the developments.
Since 1997 synthetic blood clotting products have been used.
St James’s Hospital in Dublin has set up a helpline for people who may have concerns.
The helpline number is 1800 200 849 and will operate weekdays, during office hours until 27 February.
