Funeral - Mass took place at midday

The funeral of Ann Corcoran took place in west Cork this afternoon.

The body of the 60-year-old was found in woods near Garrettstown last Friday and hundreds of people attended the removal of her remains last night to St Patrick's Church in Kilbrittain.

After the funeral mass at midday today she was buried in the cemetery in Kilbrittain.

Preliminary results of a post mortem examination indicated that Mrs Corcoran died of head injuries.

It is understood an attempt had been made to burn her body before she was buried in a shallow grave in a quarry at the woods.

Oliver Hayes, 49, from Clancool Terrace in Bandon has been charged with falsely imprisoning Mrs Corcoran at her home on a date between 19 and 21 January.

He is due to be brought before the district court in Kinsale tomorrow.
