Army explosive experts have disposed of a quantity of a potentially unstable chemical compound that was found in a laboratory at Galway University Hospitals.

The jar of Nitrocellulose was discovered in the laboratory yesterday.

Hospital authorities became concerned over its stability and the explosive risk that it might pose.

Members of the army bomb disposal team, who examined the compound, incinerated it on an area of open ground beside the hospital this afternoon.
