Two men have been arrested as part of what the PSNI said was an anti-terrorist investigation.
The suspects were taken into custody in the Newry and Mourne area yesterday.
Initially one man was arrested and a firearm recovered.
During follow-up searches by the police a second man was apprehended.
They are being questioned at the PSNI's Serious Crime Suite in Antrim.
