A boy who sold €65 worth of heroin to undercover gardaí last year when he was aged 13 has been remanded on continuing bail pending sentence.

At the Children's Court last December, the boy pleaded guilty to possessing heroin for sale or supply on a street in west Dublin on two successive dates last Spring.

He is due to be sentenced in March. The 14-year-old was accompanied by his mother to the Children's Court today.

He had never been in trouble before.

Garda Josephine Dowling had told the court that the boy sold three quantities of heroin, two with street values of €20 and one worth €25, to undercover gardaí on two successive days last Spring.

The child was the youngest person arrested in the Garda operation and was with an individual 11 years older. That person is facing a separate prosecution.

Defence Solicitor Gareth Noble told the court there were family problems, the boy had ADHD and he was vulnerable to other individuals who did not have his best interests at heart.

The judge agreed to a request for an updated Probation Service report on the boy's progress and adjourned sentencing until March.
