Motorists around the country are being urged to take extra care this evening as the poor weather will make driving conditions dangerous.
There has been heavy snowfall in parts of the northwest.
Gardaí in Donegal have described driving conditions around Letterkenny as treacherous.
And in Leitrim heavy snow and sleet have made driving hazardous, particularly around Drumshanbo and Ballinaglearagh.
Met Éireann says there is a risk of bad weather in other parts of the country as snow, hail and sleet move eastwards overnight.
Snowfall accumulations of 2-5cm are forecast, with high ground most at risk.
