The husband of murdered Latvian woman Baiba Saulite has been sentenced to another month in prison after he was found with a mobile phone component in Mountjoy jail.

Hassan Hassan, 40, is currently serving a total of six years for abducting their two children and shipping stolen cars abroad.

At Cloverhill District Court this morning he pleaded guilty to possession of a phone battery in Mountjoy Jail on 5 June last year.

Det Garda Karl Murray told the court that Hassan was searched by prison officers at the jail at 5pm and a battery fell from his underwear.

At the time Governor John Lonergan put him on a disciplinary report and he lost his evening recreation for a week.

Hassan's barrister Pat O'Brien asked the judge not to increase his six-year sentence but Judge Sheridan added another month.

Hassan was taken back to Mountjoy Prison this afternoon and is now due to be released in July 2010.

Ms Saulite was shot dead in the hallway of her home in Swords, Co Dublin, in November 2006.
