Gardaí in Co Cork attended the scene where a lorry was parked in Kerry Pike on Christmas Eve following reports of suspicious activity.
It is believed the lorry may have been carrying toxic material, possibly asbestos.
Gardaí say no illegal dumping has taken place at Kerry Pike, near Blarney.
No arrests have been made and the matter has been reported to Cork County Council and the Department of the Environment.
It is not yet known who owns the lorry or where it was travelling to or from.
