Young men are to be the focus of this year's Christmas safe driving campaign by gardaí.
Assistant Garda Commissioner Eddie Rock has said he is concerned about the increase in the number of men aged between 19 and 24 being killed on the roads.
The road safety initiative will see hundreds of gardaí deployed across the country in an effort to cut road deaths and detect drink and drug driving.
Assistant Commissioner Rock said that while people have changed their culture with regard to drink driving, motorists are still driving too fast and putting lives at risk.
He said the road safety campaign over the Christmas would address that trend.
