Four police officers have been killed in a road accident in Northern Ireland.
The four men were on duty at the time of the accident on the Moygannon Road, the main route linking Warrenpoint and Kilkeel, Co Down shortly before 4am.
They were in a 4x4 police vehicle which is understood to have left the road.
The two full-time and two part-time officers have yet to be named but it is understood they are from the south Down area.
PSNI Chief Constable Sir Hugh Orde arrived at the scene of the crash this morning.
He said the police family had lost four fine police officers in what he described as 'deeply tragic circumstances'.
Northern Secretary Shaun Woodward described the deaths as a profound tragedy.
While First Minister Peter Robinson and deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness also expressed their deep sorrow at the series of road deaths which have claimed seven lives in Northern Ireland this weekend.
