A report on broadband provision shows the number of connections in Ireland increased by over 4% in the year to the end of June.

The OECD Broadband Statistics detail usage trends, connection speeds and average subscription costs in 30 countries.

Updated information in the latest report shows that there were 853,020 broadband subscribers here at the end of June.

That figure does not include the total for mobile broadband services. Recent data from ComReg showed almost 250,000 people were subscribing to these offerings.

The study also shows that over 90% of businesses with ten or more employees have broadband access.

Overall, the so-called broadband penetration rate is 19.1%, placing Ireland just behind the OECD average of 20%.
