A doctor's driver has told a trial in Limerick that he was 'on top of the scene' of a tragic accident in Limerick before he saw any sign of it.
Garda Brian Kelleher and Fireman Michael Liston were killed in the accident at Barrygonn near Foynes on 25 February 2007.
20-year-old Niall Shannon of Ballylongford, Co Kerry denies dangerous driving causing their deaths.
Michael Moroney, a driver with mobile medical unit Shannon Dock, was called to the scene of the accident.
Giving evidence for the defence today, Mr Moroney described the approach to the accident scene.
He said he could not see any lights because they were shaded by trees and when he came around a bend he was on top of the accident before he knew it.
He managed to stop his car but it was not easy because there were so many vehicles in front of him.
