A 42-year-old man has been jailed for life after pleading guilty to the murder of Finbar Dennehy.
Mr Dennehy, a 50-year-old retired business executive, was found dead in his apartment in Clontarf in Dublin in September last year.
The Central Criminal Court heard how Michael Downes, of no fixed abode, stabbed and strangled Mr Dennehy in a row over sex.
Finbar Dennehy was found tied up with a bag over his head.
The accused and his victim were gay men who had been acquainted. On 24 September last year they met in Dublin and went back to Mr Dennehy's apartment at Seafield Road.
A row over sex occurred the following night and Downes stabbed Mr Dennehy in the groin with a knife. Hours later, as Mr Dennhey lay on his couch he took a belt from a dressing gown and strangled him.
He later tied Mr Dennehy in what gardaí described as an elaborate fashion and placed a plastic bag over his head.
42-year-old Downes pleaded guilty to murder.
