Former Clare GP's retrial adjourned

Pascal Carmody - Faces 11 charges

A retrial on charges against former Co Clare GP Pascal Carmody has been adjourned until next January.

Mr Carmody still faces 11 charges of obtaining money by false pretences from a number of cancer patients, after a jury could not decide on these charges at a five-week trial last July.

The Circuit Court in Ennis heard today that the Director of Public Prosecutions had still not made any decision on a retrial in relation to the matters on which the jury was undecided.

The court heard it was very unlikely that any new trial would go ahead in October because it was so close to the last trial.

The court was told that counsel for Mr Carmody would be making a number of applications to the trial judge about his former trial, and the case was adjourned to Ennis Circuit Court on 12 January.
