An Irish nurse has received an international award for inspiring cancer care.

Ursula Courtney, who is Director of Services at ARC Cancer Support Centre in Dublin, is the first Irish nurse to win the Robert Tiffany Lectureship, which is conferred every five years.

As part of the award, Ms Courtney delivered a lecture to cancer care nurses at the World Cancer Nursing Conference in Singapore last month.

Robert Tiffany was the initiator of the Biennial International Conference on Cancer Nursing and is recognised as an inspirational leader in cancer nursing.

The award honours those who have a similar capacity to innovate, advocate and inspire cancer nurses now and in the future.

Ms Courtney has worked in oncology nursing for nearly 20 years, and has previously won national and international awards for her work in psycho-social cancer care.

In April, she won a special €3,000 bursary at the Crystal Clear MSD Health Literacy Awards (pictured) for her initiative 'Women who talk together learn together'.
