Passengers due to fly from Faro in Portugal to Shannon last night were delayed after a Ryanair plane experienced a bird strike.
The plane was landing in Faro when the problem occurred but a subsequent inspection cleared the plane for take-off, according to Ryanair.
However, as the plane was due to take off some passengers became concerned about a smell on board and the crew aborted the take-off.
Many passengers had to spend the night at the airport and some said this morning they were refusing to re-board the plane because of safety concerns.
Ryanair said the company was happy with the inspections carried out and the flight was scheduled to take off this morning.
