Police in Northern Ireland have arrested four men and a woman in connection with the murder of the journalist Martin O'Hagan seven years ago.

Mr O'Hagan, who was 51, was shot dead in front of the wife as he walked home in Lurgan in September 2001.

He worked for the Sunday World newspaper and was the first working journalist to be killed during the Troubles.

At the time loyalist paramilitaries were blamed for the killing and the then RUC Chief Constable Ronnie Flanagan said he believed the Loyalist Volunteer Force had been responsible.

The five suspects now in custody were arrested by PSNI detectives from the Retrospective Murder Review unit.

They were detained in raids in Lurgan and Banbridge in Co Down, and are now being questioned at the serious crime suite in Antrim police station.
