A 29-year-old man is critically ill in hospital after being attacked in Co Derry.
The man was found lying injured in the street in the Bannfield Road area of Coleraine at around 2.30am.
He was taken to the Causeway Hospital in Coleraine, but has since been transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.
He is believed to have sustained serious head injuries.
A PSNI spokeswoman said the area had been sealed off for a forensic examination.
Members of the public reported seeing three men in the area at the time of the assault.
According to the PSNI, three men visited Coleraine hospital at about 3am to check on the man’s condition. Detectives say they would like to speak to these three men as they may be able to help with their investigation.
The chair of the Coleraine District Policing Partnership, John Dallat, condemned the attack.
Ulster Unionist MLA David McClarty called on anyone with information to pass it on to the PSNI.
