A 23-year-old Westmeath man who raped a woman in a Longford pub carpark has been jailed for six years.
Marcus McHugh of Christianstown, Collinstown, Mullingar pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to raping the woman, whom he also threatened to kill.
McHugh had been drinking heavily on the day of the attack and had also consumed ecstasy and cannabis.
Mr Justice Paul Carney said it was the latest in a long series of cases where young men of previous good character lose control of themselves socially after taking large amounts of drink and drugs.
