A man is recovering in hospital after being shot in the head earlier this morning.

The incident happened in Ballyfermot in Dublin. The victim's injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The scene of the shooting on Colepark Road in Ballyfermot remains sealed off this afternoon.

The incident happened at around 3.50am when a number of shots were fired through an open window of a shed in the back garden of a terraced house.

A man in his 30s was alone in the shed at the time and received serious injuries. Gardaí say he was shot in the head.

The victim was taken to St James's Hospital - a spokesperson for the hospital said he was in a stable condition.

Gardaí from the Garda Technical Bureau were conducting a forensic examination of the scene this afternoon.

Investigating officers are appealing for anyone with relevant information to come forward. No arrests have yet been made.
