A 28-year-old man has been arrested after he threatened unarmed gardaí with a gun in Dublin.

He is being questioned at Kevin Street Garda Station.

The man was seen acting suspiciously at Dolphin House in the south of the city last night.

When unarmed gardaí arrived the man ordered them to move back and tried to escape.

Armed back-up was called in by the gardaí, which included the organised crime unit and the emergency response unit.

The man was arrested at Dolphin's Barn Bridge on the Grand Canal and was found to be wearing a bullet-proof vest.

Members of the garda underwater unit recovered a Luger pistol and a silencer following a seach of the Grand Canal.

Gardaí believe the man is connected to one of the gangs in the Crumlin-Drimnagh feud.
