Counterfeit CDs and DVDs seized

About €250,000 worth of counterfeit CDs and DVDs have been seized in a raid on Drogheda market.

Illegally imported cigarettes worth €40,000, as well as a vehicle, were also seized in the Co Louth raid earlier today.

One man was arrested but has subsequently been released. Gardaí are preparing a file to be sent to the DPP.

The Drogheda gardaí-led operation came as a result of protracted surveillance of the area. The CDs, DVDs and cigarettes were taken from a number of stalls and vehicles in the area.

Gardaí carrying out the raid were assisted by Revenue officials, as well as staff from INFACT (the organisation that combats film piracy), and IMRO (representing the music industry).

The operation was part of ongoing operations tackling the sale and distribution of counterfeit goods and illegally imported cigarettes.
