A 50-year-old farmer is in a critical condition in hospital after a shooting at a house near Headford, Co Galway.
Gardaí were called to the farmhouse where the man lives with his elderly father shortly after 8am this morning. The house is located in Toorard, about 5km from Headford.
The man had been seriously injured and was taken to hospital in Galway where he underwent surgery for a gunshot wound.
He remains critically ill.
Gardaí say they are not looking for anybody else in connection with the incident and have ruled out foul play.
