Three children from Northern Ireland were taken into temporary care in Portugal after their parents allegedly became so drunk that they passed out.

It is understood the couple, who are on holiday in the Algarve, passed out in the foyer and bar of the hotel where they were staying, leaving their children - aged one, two and six - to fend for themselves.

The couple, from Maghera in Co Derry, were taken to hospital while their two sons and daughter spent the night in a children's care home in Faro.
