A father who claims the Adoption Board should have notified him that his daughter was being adopted by his ex-partner's new husband has been given permission to challenge its decision.

The court heard that the man attempted suicide following the breakdown of the relationship with the child's mother.

The child was subsequently adopted by her mother's new husband.

The man was convicted of burning down his former home during his suicide attempt.

He was not allowed to have contact with his child as part of his bail conditions.

When he attempted in 2007 to have access to her again he was told an adoption order had been made.

Mr Justice Michael Peart has given him permission to seek a judicial review of the board's decision to allow the adoption without notifying him first.
