A device found in the Crumlin area of Dublin last night has been declared a hoax.

Gardaí and the Army Bomb Disposal Team attended the scene on Kildare Road after 9pm last night.

The area was sealed off and people were evacuated from their homes when a cylinder type device was found beside a car.

The device contained nails, screws and a powdered substance but no explosives.

It was declared a hoax by the bomb disposal team and residents were allowed return to their homes after 11pm.

24 hours earlier a pipe bomb exploded in the front garden of a house in nearby Monasterboice Road.

It is believed the device was thrown from a passing car; no-one was injured.
