Fine Gael has called for a minimum 25-year sentence to be imposed on those convicted of murder.

The party is holding a conference on its Victims' Rights Bill, which was launched in January.

Charles Flanagan, Fine Gael's Justice Spokesman, said mandatory sentences for serious crime, including drugs crime, were needed.

Victims of crime were also expected to join the Fine Gael conference in Dublin.
